BEIJING, November 6, 2007 – API today officially opened its Beijing representative office at a ceremony attended by government officials, industry leaders and other guests at the Ritan Inn House in Beijing.
The office, API’s first facility outside the United States, will promote cooperation and the exchange of information between the U.S. and Chinese oil and natural gas industries.
“The opening of our Beijing office reflects both the global breadth of the oil and natural gas industry and the emergence of a robust energy sector that is fueling China’s growth,” API President and CEO Red Cavaney said at the opening ceremony.
“Having a permanent presence in Beijing will enable API to get to know and work with key government officials and nongovernmental bodies involved in Chinese oil and natural gas operations,” Cavaney added. “The office will promote cooperation between our industries and will offer API’s services and support to help meet the Chinese oil and gas industry’s needs.”
The markets for API’s programs are increasingly global, with nearly 80 percent of all current customers located outside the United States. A greater regional presence is required to service international customers.
With more than 800 API customers in China, it is important to provide local and timely service. The Beijing office will help customers solve problems, as well as help API learn from their experiences and develop new and better services.
The opening ceremony hosted by Cavaney was attended by government officials, business leaders and the news media. He was accompanied by other API officials: Brenda Hargett, vice president and chief financial officer; Jim Craig, vice president policy and communications; Harry Ng, general counsel and group director legal services; John Modine, chief representative of the Beijing office; and Chip Evans, global services manager.
API’s representatives in the Beijing office are Chambers Li, senior sales and service consultant, and Lisa Liu, sales and service consultant. The office will work directly with Evans, who is located in API’s Houston office.
API is the industry’s national trade association representing all aspects of America’s oil and natural gas industry.
