Washington Representative (Tax and Trade Issues) - Federal Relations

 
 

Qualifications:

  • College degree with 10+ years of public policy or legislative advocacy experience.
  • Law degree with federal tax focus preferred.
  • Requires aptitude for and interest in lobbying Congress and the Executive Branch.
  • Must be skilled at gathering legislative information, making recommendations to respond to legislative initiatives, and reporting on assigned issues.
  • Working knowledge of industry federal policy issues particularly relating to tax and trade issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively, with flexibility and personal diplomacy, in a team environment.

Essential Functions: 

  • Represent the petroleum industry before the executive and legislative branches of the Federal Government and promote the interests of the industry on matters relating to oil and gas taxation and trade-related issues.
  • Work with API staff and representatives from API member companies to coordinate and implement strategy on priority federal policy issues.
  • Staff appropriate federal relations subcommittees to develop effective strategies to advance the interests of the petroleum industry.
  • Work effectively within API departments and issue management teams to provide federal policy expertise in developing and pursuing advocacy objectives.
  • Work with all relevant outside groups to promote support for API initiatives and policies.
  • Provide support to the Director of Federal Relations and other API staff members on assigned issues from the legislative branch.
