API Announces Discontinuation of Licensing Diesel Engine Oils with API CF-4 Specification

On June 30, 2008, API will discontinue licensing diesel engine oils against the API CF-4 specification. API’s decision to cease CF-4 licensing became necessary after the ASTM Heavy Duty Engine Oil Classification Panel (HDEOCP) determined that it could not establish correlation between a now unavailable engine sequence test required by API as proof of CF-4 performance and existing diesel engine sequence tests. With no viable replacement for this CF-4 test, API had no choice but to discontinue licensing against the CF-4 specification. The Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) has endorsed API’s decision to discontinue licensing of CF-4.  To download a full copy of this notice letter, click here.
